The 3 Cases of Acute Intermittent Porphyria






Abstract
Three cases of acute intermittent porphyria which was confirmed by Watson-Schwartz modific-ation of the Ehrlich reaction was observed in our hospital for one year, in 1975.
Case ¥° who was 31 year-old Korean house-wife was admitted because of intermittent colicky abdominal pain, fever and vomiting. During hospital days, abdominal pain was progressively aggravated and mental , symptoms were developed, thereafter excessive porphobilinogen was detected in the urine Watson-Schwartz modification of the Ehrlish reaction. Intensive treatment with carbohydrate and chloropromazine therapy was performed, but general state was more aggrevated. At last, hopeless discharge was done.
Case ¥± who was 17 year-old Korean senior high school girl was admitted because of more evaluation for acute intermittent porphyria, which was diagnosed by positive urinary porphobil inogen at our O..P.D., four months. previously. During hospital days, non-specific findings were resulted.
Case ¥² who was also 31 year-old Korean house-wife was hospitalized because of intermittent , colicky abdominal pain radiating to back and vomiting under impression, of acute pancreatitis. During admission, excessive porphobilinogen was detected in urine Watson-Schwartz test -and acute intermittent porphyria was confirmed. Treatment was, constituted with carbohydrate, meperidine and chloroproma--ine. Thereafter general condition was improved.
